Warm Winter Accessories for Local Victoria Homeless
We need them ready for September. The organizations I spoke with said that while at Christmas the donation baskets are full, they really need help when it starts to get cold, so we are asking for you to get everything ready by the end of August through mid-September.
Please make a variety of sizes. In addition to shelters, local food banks will also accept knitting donations, so anything from 5years to adult is great.
Dark colours are preferred. These colours don’t stand out and do a better job of hiding dirt & stains. We won’t turn away brighter colours, but they will be harder to find homes for.
Think warm. Choose warm styles over lacey ones… we have some great easy patterns at the store if you need them. Also, wool or acrylic/wool blend yarns will offer more warmth in the cold and damp, so if you have any leftovers consider using them up.
Save your scraps. These projects are a great way to use up any leftover bits of yarn, stripe them in to make things interesting. The store also has a nice basket full of donated yarn that has come in from the community, so if you want to knit but you don’t have your own stash come on in and talk to us!
